International Women’s Day 2021 || Choose to Challenge

The Importance of International Women’s Day

Do you get involved in International Women’s Day? Have you even heard about it before and what it stands for? With so many national and internal days now, it can be easy to get lost in them all, there is even a ‘national shower with a friend day’! I mean, if that’s what floats your boat then go for it, but let’s keep it serious for a minute and explore what International Women’s Day is all about.

International Women's Day 2021

A brief history

International Women’s Day has a history that stretches back over 100 years. In 1908 over 15,000 women marched through the streets of New York, they were campaigning for better pay, shorter hours, and better working conditions as well as the right to vote. In 1909 America celebrated what was the first National Women’s Day, the next few years saw more campaigning, more change, and an international recognition of the inequality faced by women.

The idea of International Women’s Day was put forward by Clara Zetkin in 1910 at the Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen, there was a unanimous vote for it and in 1911 multiple countries across the globe celebrated International Women’s Day together. It was around 1913 – 1914 when March 8th became the internationally recognised date for the campaign and celebrations and to this day, over 100 years later, International Women’s Day is still celebrated all across the globe on March 8th.

As the new millennium approached and the year 2000 rolled in, very few people were recognising and celebrating International Women’s Day, it had become a forgotten tradition and platform, and yet in reality so little had changed. Women were still at a disadvantage in the workplace in comparison to their male counter parts, forced marriages were still taking place, a woman’s role within the family dynamic was still viewed by many as one where she was the caretaker of the house and children, rather than an equal partner with her own dreams, goals, and ambitions.

In the last twenty years a new lease of life has been bought to International Women’s Day and it is once again celebrated and used as a platform for change across the globe. Millions of people now celebrate the day each year and they campaign for change for the better.

International Womens Day

What does International Women’s Day mean to me or you?

Each one of us has a role to play in the world of change, we each have a voice that we can use to help bring understanding, and we can each celebrate the women in our lives and the women who have already created change for us. Whether you feel passionate about gender equality, the right to choose, or you want to show love and appreciation of other women then International Women’s Day is the perfect time for you to get involved and get your voice heard.

International Women’s Day is used now to shine a light on topics that the world might try to hide away from and ignore. With the use of social media and other platforms it allows hundreds of thousands of women (and men), to communicate, collaborate and talk about important issues.

A single day is not enough to actually create change, campaigns for change are taking place all the time, but we often don’t see them or hear about them unless we are directly affected or involved. International Women’s Day changes that, it has created a forum for conversation, for taboo subjects to step into the light to be heard and seen.

For me International Women’s Day also represents the right for each of us to be an individual, to celebrate ourselves and honour our own needs, wants, and desires. It is a reminder that the freedom we have, the right to vote, and the progress that has been made over the years, has been hard fought for and should not be taken for granted. It is a reminder to be thankful but also to be gracious, and to help the next person take a step forward into their own light.

How can you get involved?

The most important thing that we can do right now is keep the lines of conversation open and keep our minds open to the endless possibilities around us. Here are a few things you could do for International Women’s Day:

• Get involved in this year’s theme – #ChoosetoChallenge – take your picture with your hand up, palm open and facing outwards, and post it on social media with the hashtags #IWD2021 and #ChoosetoChallenge and tell others why you are getting involved and what it means to you.

• Create conversation amongst your peer groups and with your friends and family, talk about what is important to you, have open (friendly) debates on topics that mean the most to you. Listen to others and understand what matters to them. Find ways to support each other.

• Show the other women in your life how much you value and appreciate them. You don’t have to go out and spend money on gifts, just pick up the phone or send them a message and thank them for all that they do for you.

• Always be yourself. Through the year’s women have had to fight for freedom and for what they believe in. Don’t allow that fight and their victories to become wasted. Be 100% you all the time and be proud of who you are. Find a community where you can show up as yourself, in fact come and join mine.

Boudoir is for EVERY body!2021-02-24T12:25:33+00:00

Boudoir is for EVERY body

Your butt is not too big, your boobs are not too small – these are common misconceptions, purely the voice of your own self-doubt trying to hold you back and keep you from expressing yourself.

boudoir is for every body

I know what you’re thinking as most of my clients have told me they’ve had exactly the same thoughts! A boudoir shoot with a talented and experienced photographer sounds incredible, and would be a great way to pamper yourself, but you just don’t have the right body for it. Am I right? Is that what is running through your mind? You have way too much cellulite, you butt is huge and could eclipse the moon, your boobs are too small and far too droopy thanks to breast feeding, you don’t have a flat tummy, and as for your stretch marks, well they could rival a London Underground tube map! Nope, a boudoir shoot is not for you, what on earth were you thinking.

Wow, slow down girl and keep reading because I am going to tell you exactly why a luxury boudoir shoot is for you and why I am the perfect photographer to work with.

What does a boudoir shoot involve?

At the heart of every shoot that I do, my aim is to help you to feel empowered, liberated, sexy and at one with your body. Whilst I might not love being in front of the camera myself, I have made it my mission to be the absolute best luxury boudoir photographer that I can be, in fact I would go as far as to say that I am a boudoir artist. I have lots of techniques up my sleeve to put you at ease and help you to enjoy the session and I have lots of poses to help you try, although I love to capture the way you move naturally as well.

Our shoot starts way before the actual session as I am there to advise you on how to pick the right outfits and lingerie for your shoot. We can talk about poses, decide if it will be a studio or location shoot and I’ll advise you on how to prep on the days leading up to the shoot. I want you to have fun and make memories that will last a lifetime.

boudoir is for every body

I don’t have the right body for a boudoir shoot.

EVERY body is the right body for a boudoir shoot. What you see as imperfections or flaws, I see as your natural raw beauty and by the end of the session you will see that too. You body is a unique work of art that has been created through all of your life experiences, let’s show that work of art off.

But my bum is too big, I hear you cry. Nonsense is my reply. I love doing booty shots, there is just something so incredibly sexy about every booty. I’ll help you to find poses to show off your best angles, we can play around with your clothes and with different lighting options. Trust me no bum is too big or too small.

Yes, but what about all my cellulite? What about your cellulite? Did you know that over 80% of women have cellulite! It does not make you any less beautiful or less deserving of a simply gorgeous experience. Don’t worry, we are going to use incredible poses and just the right lighting to make sure that you look fantastic and sexy in every shot.

Okay, but my boobs are small and a little bit saggy and I never really fill out my lingerie in a sexy way. I hear you, but maybe you have just been buying the wrong pieces, or you have been looking at your body all wrong. Either way I will ensure that you feel sexy throughout the shoot and that you reconnect with your body and how truly amazing it is.

I’m paranoid about all of my stretch marks and my mum tum, I’m not sure a shoot is for me. Don’t worry I’m a mum myself and I’ve had those doubts about my own body at times but then I remembered that those stretch marks were just a sign of my body growing and adapting over the years. And as for those tiger stripes – be proud of what they represent, your body did something incredible and bought new life into the world.

I’m really not very confident in front of the camera. That’s ok, part of my job as your luxury boudoir photographer is to set your mind at ease, help you to relax, and get you to have fun from there we will soon find our way to some incredible photos.

boudoir is for every body

Surprising side effects

It may surprise you to know that most women leave my shoots a changed person. You might come in feeling shy, unsure about your body and lacking in self-love but that is not how you will leave. When we finish our shoot, you will be on cloud nine, walking tall and strutting your stuff. I’ve had ladies in the past tell me that a shoot literally revolutionised the relationship they had with themselves and their body. That they went from feeling insecure, shy and embarrassed of the way they looked (or thought they looked), to feeling confident, powerful and in awe of just how incredible their body actually is.

A boudoir photoshoot is empowering – you will leave feeling like a lioness. So, what are you waiting for? Get in touch today and let’s plan your ideal shoot together.

Outdoor Boudoir || Miss R’s Experience

This year I had big plans of a body positive group photoshoot to take place in the sunflower field…. But unfortunately covid had other ideas and it had to go on the back-burner. But solo shoots did not, so I decided to run a model call to at least photograph one women amongst the gorgeous sunflowers. Anupa held her hand up and agreed to roll with my crazy ideas. Here she tells us of her experience…

sunflower field boudoir photography Leicester

Model shoot anyone?! Sarah opened up a model call and with all of the work I am doing around positive body image, I couldn’t say no! I knew if I was talking the talk, I needed to walk the walk.

As soon as I said yes my mind was racing with questions, what will I wear? will my body look okay? will I look awkward? will there be people looking? (as not only did I decide to say yes to a shoot, I said yes to a shoot that would take place in a sunflower field…eek!)

The shoot, as it turns out, was so relaxed and fun. Sarah put me at ease from start to finish! We did get a few looks but I just got lost in the moment. I felt so liberated being almost naked, with the sun on my skin, in the middle of a field!

When the photos were revealed I could hardly believe it was me! If I didn’t see myself as sexy before, I certainly did when I saw the images. The shoot has made me feel good about myself and having the photos to look back on will be so wonderful as I age and my body changes.

I would recommend Sarah wholeheartedly. Not only is she friendly, down to earth and able to make you feel completely relaxed, she is also a true professional.

We are all beautiful, we are all worthy, we are all enough. So if you are hesitant, don’t be! Be brave, be real, be you!

Outdoor Boudoir On Location – Leicestershire2020-11-25T10:52:45+00:00

Boudoir on Location – Leicestershire || Miss S’s Experience

I was just about to write a paragraph for this post and Miss S had just emailed me her boudoir survey. I will let her speak from her own experience!

boudoir on location in leicestershire
Why did you choose Sarah Rachel Boudoir?
I had done a couple of virtual boudoir shoots over lockdown with Sarah so I felt comfortable and safe with her.

Were you nervous about anything going into the session?

No, I was excited! I was nervous when we got to the park and I had to get undressed but after a while I warmed up to it and it was fine.

What was your favourite part of the experience?

My favourite part of the experience by far was feeling like I was sexy. For the first time in a long time actually being comfortable in my own skin and feeling confident. It was liberating, exciting and empowering.

outdoor boudoir on location leicestershire

What were your thoughts when you saw your images for the first time?

I was so nervous for my reveal appointment, I was like a giggly school girl. It is really difficult to override the instinctive ‘Oh no I don’t like that look at my, arm or my tummy or my chin’. It took a while to see through that, and instead of being disgusted by the parts of my body that I thought looked big or flabby or whatever, I began to see those imperfections as something else. Once I started to look at the picture as a whole instead of focussing on an aspect I didn’t like which frankly no one else would notice, I really saw the beauty in them. And I began to realise that those bits are not imperfections. They are just my body. My body is what it is and it should be appreciated for its true worth. We would never tell our friends that their arm looked fat in that photo or their tummy looked like a wobble board would we, so why do it to ourselves? And the process I have gone through with Sarah has been the springboard for this epiphany. Without her I wouldn’t have got to this point of self acceptance, self love and being kind to myself.

How do you feel now you have completed the session?

I’m so proud of myself, as an experience that I can look back on and say I did. In 20 years time, or when I’m old and wrinkly, I will look back and think that for one morning while I was half naked having photos taken on Knighton Park, I was badass. I HAD it. I was sexy. I was happy. And confident. This is an investment for my life. There will no doubt be times in the future when I feel terrible, need a pick me up, or a reminder of what I am, what I can do, and they are there for that reason. They are my own personal pick me up.

Take your Boudoir Shoot on the Road

Any advice for other ladies who have booked and are nervous or who are hesitant to book?

Nerves are normal and are ok. Go with them, embrace them and overcome them. You will feel proud of yourself afterwards. Don’t hesitate. Cost might be a factor but there are prepayment plans and I don’t know if you can really put a price on the outcome which is your own confidence and appreciation of your body and mind.

Would you recommend Sarah Rachel Boudoir to others?

100% I have done and I will do. I love Sarah, I think the way she can make us come out of our shell and for the time we are with her become something else is magical. But it isn’t becoming something else really, it is just reconnecting with ourselves. For the time you are in front of the camera you are not a wife or a mother or a manager or anything other than just you. You are entirely yourself for that time. That in itself is priceless.

There’s something very special about sharing your unique story as a couple. It’s learning to be vulnerable and embrace the deeper connection that you may not always share with the outside world. This is an experience that will provide you with self-love and confidence in your skin, while also giving you an opportunity to take your relationship to the next level by spicing it up with some sexy photos of the two of you!

This LGBTQ Couples Beach Boudoir Photoshoot was a dream to photograph and we had so much fun! Read on to hear what Miss I had to say about their couples beach boudoir session…

“We decided to go with Sarah Rachel Boudoir for a couples photoshoot, and by far it was the best experience! With being a couple’s opportunity to gain badass photos, it also felt a unique way to spice things up and be a feel-good moment to boost confidence! I went into the photoshoot, being nervous, not knowing what to expect, and somewhat feeling insecure within my own skin. I did not want my insecurities to get in the way of the shoot, nor did I feel I knew how to pose beforehand but I left feeling the complete opposite! The encouragement from Sarah herself was amazing. Being made to feel at ease and having the inclusivity as if I was shooting with a friend. This definitely reassured me and made me feel a lot more comfortable.
When I first saw the photographs, I was elated. I absolutely loved seeing them, and we both looked absolutely amazing! The photos looked absolutely beautiful and I felt so empowered as a woman. Most importantly, Sarah’s photography made me feel pretty.
If I was to give advice to anybody wanting to do a shoot but was nervous or hesitant, then all I would say is to go for it! Don’t let any insecurities hold you back, because this could potentially change your whole outlook. I’m such a shy individual and I went for it, and I went for it, not having it any other way. I still feel so empowered and pretty. It gave me confidence, and I hope it does you too!”

Walking the walk – Virtual Boudoir Photoshoot2020-04-25T21:52:11+01:00

Walking the Walk || Virtual Boudoir

Those of you who know me personally will understand how much I dislike being in front of the camera, but I’m getting much better at it.

I’m making a conscious decision to exist more in photos. To document myself and my body at different periods in life. Every month I can look at a photo and notice something different about my appearance and it’s not something that’s ever going to stay the same.

Documenting your journey through life is so Important no matter where you are along it. Life IS a journey and you shouldn’t wait around for when you “reach” a certain goal to document it. One day you will look back and realised what your missed out on. I can look back through photos where I’m completely missing and it makes me feel sad. Or I’ll remember something that happened but it was like I was never there. DON’T DO THAT TO YOURSELF.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve put myself out there and volunteered for a few virtual boudoir photoshoots and got vulnerable with it. ITS BEEN SO REFRESHING AND UPLIFTING. Seriously.

I urge you all to get out of your own damn way and do the thing. You will not regret it.

Boudie-Cam Virtual Boudoir Photoshoot2020-04-14T09:20:39+01:00

Boudie-Cam Virtual Boudoir Photoshoot

Hey friends!

How is your self-isolation going? Are you fed up of Netflix and chilling? House tidier than the Royal Palace? Ready to try something new?

This past week I’ve been trialling something pretty cool that I’m ready to share with you guys. Cue Boudie-Cam Photoshoots. What are those you may ask?! Well, Im here to tell you. They are virtual boudoir photoshoots under quarantine restrictions via online video chat, so no germs! They take place in your own home or garden and are a chance to give yourself a little self love boost and have some fun in these uncertain times. Quarantine definitely doesn’t have to be boring and I’m here to prove it to you!

I can’t say I came up with this idea on my own. One of the amazing humans, Teri Hofford who is part of my favourite Boudie Facebook group for photographers shared the idea and I put it into action myself.

I can honestly say she has ignited some extra creativity in me right now! These Boudie-Cam virtual boudoir photoshoots, while no substitute for my in studio photoshoots, are however a great way to create some personalised art for you, and for me to up my game and mix it up with some vintage inspired editing techniques.

On another note, I decided to practice what I preach and put myself out there by volunteering for one of Teri’s vintage model calls. I received some epic photos of myself on my new collage wall (my inner teen is being unleashed and I’m not sorry about it haha) which I may post later this week so stay tuned ;)

Prepping for your boudoir shoot2020-01-27T19:06:48+00:00

Prepping For Your Boudoir Shoot || Boudoir Photos Leicester

Your Boudoir shoot is very likely a once in a lifetime experience or in the least a rare treat, so there are several things you want to do in order to prepare for your session. These tips will guarantee that the days leading up to and during your photo shoot will be much less stressful, and will result in a beautiful set of photos.

Prepping for your boudoir shoot

FIVE DAYS BEFORE

  • If you wax, do so a few days before your shoot to avoid any bumps or redness.
  • Make sure your eyebrows are nicely groomed.
  • Be sure your fingers and toes have a nice mani/pedi and/or are clean before the session, even if it’s just a clear polish!
  • Stay out of the sun – natural skin always photographs best.
  • Drink plenty of water for luminous skin.
  • Lower your salt intake and avoid alcohol if you’re worried about retaining water about 48 hours in advance.
  • Try on your outfits and lingerie to make sure they fit properly; remove all tags and labels. And with those outfits – practice posing in these clothes in front of the mirror (you may be thinking – uhm… awkward) but trust me! Blast your favourite Spotify playlist and just do it – you’ll be glad you did.
  • Nobody wants to ruin an empowering session because they’re crabby, cramping, and bloated. Instead, book the week after mother nature decides to gracefully hit you; this is when you’re high energy and feeling like your most gorgeous self again.

THE DAY BEFORE

  • Bathe, shave and moisturise.
  • Double-check everything is properly packed and ready for the shoot: jewellery, accessories, shoes, etc.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time to travel to your session without stressing. Check weather and traffic reports to ensure you have allotted enough time for unexpected delays.
  • Enjoy a relaxed, quiet evening the evening before.
  • Get a good nights sleep! The night before is not the best night to hit the town; get all your things packed and ready the day before and allow yourself plenty of time to get prepped. Do your natural routine in the morning whether that is journaling or working out – just be YOU! You will be happy you did!

THE DAY OF

  • Use clear deodorant, please!
  • Skip the bra, socks, watch, tight jeans, leggings that have stitching and/or patterns and anything else which could leave an impression on your skin the day of your shoot. Besides, you want to relax and feel confident. I recommend wearing a loose t-shirt and soft leggings to your shoot so there are no funky lines anywhere on your body.
  • Three words: Water. Water. Water. Make sure to avoid alcohol and salt 24 hours before as these will not make you feel your best. And don’t fake tan. Don’t use tanning lotion. Your most natural skin is going to look the most beautiful and you don’t want to look like a sexy pumpkin. Trust me.
  • Eat something light but filling before you leave the house, and feel free to bring your favourite snacks to the shoot!
  • Most important: Take a deep breath and RELAX. It’s completely normal to be a little bit nervous before your shoot, but please don’t worry, we will have so much fun together!

Candlelight Boudoir Photoshoot

Hey friends! Happy Monday.  I wanted to share a recent session with you that I am kind of obsessed with. I’ll be honest, the lighting situation with this candlelight boudoir photoshoot was a little tricky.  I don’t use studio lighting. It’s just not my jam. I am a natural light girl all the way. My prime hours of shooting in studio (depending on the time of year) is typically between the hours of 10am – 4pm.

But sometimes it good to break out of your comfort zone and create something different, which was exactly what I did when I arranged this creative candlelight session with fellow boudoir photographer Nicole.
