What To Do If You Get Your Period

Hey there! So, you’ve got a boudoir photo shoot scheduled and you’re beyond excited. But then it hits you – your period is due to start soon. Talk about terrible timing! Don’t worry, this scenario has happened to more of my clients than I can count. And while it can be a little disappointing to get your period right before your session, it shouldn’t stop you from having an amazing boudoir experience! In fact, I’ve got some advice for you on what to do if you get your period right before your boudoir photo session.

Should you reschedule your boudoir photo shoot if you’re on your period?

We know it might be your first instinct to reschedule your boudoir session to a time when you won’t be on your period. However, doing so might cost you money in the form of a rescheduling fee, and there’s really no need to change your appointment, provided you’re able to wear a tampon or menstrual cup for the duration of your boudoir photo shoot. Trust me – I’ve got your back!

How can you look and feel sexy during your period?

I get it – having your period can make you feel a little less than sexy. But don’t worry, it’s possible to feel and look amazing during your boudoir session, even during that time of the month! I have a gallery full of gorgeous boudie babes to prove it. Can you tell which women in my portfolio were on their periods during their boudoir sessions? Absolutely not! Having a boudoir session is truly a fun and amazing experience, no matter what time of the month you do it! The key is to trust in the process and allow me to take care of the rest. Plus, popping a couple of paracetamol or ibuprofen right before your appointment might not hurt, either. ;)

What if you’re bloated or your skin breaks out before your boudoir session?

Bloating and breakouts can happen during your period, but don’t worry – I won’t allow either of these temporary, yet unfortunate, menstrual side effects to affect your boudoir photos. My professional hair and makeup artists are extremely talented at what they do, and I am an expert when it comes to boudoir wardrobe styling, lighting, angles, and posing to help you look your absolute best in your photos. In other words, there really is no need to worry or be concerned about bloating or having a couple of pimples on the day of your boudoir shoot because those, along with any other temporary skin issues such as accidental bruises or scrapes, will not be visible in your gorgeous, professionally edited boudoir photos.

What if there’s an accident during your boudoir shoot?

I know accidents can happen, and that’s okay. The last thing you need to worry about is being mortified in front of me, especially when it comes to period-related issues or accidents during your boudoir session. We are an all-female team, and we totally get it! Not only have we all experienced them ourselves at one time or another, but I’ve probably photographed them too. If I notice a tampon string or a visible period stain in your underwear during the photo shoot, we will either adjust your poses so that it’s no longer visible, or simply let you know what we’re seeing so you can make any necessary adjustments, if needed. In most cases, though, my clients never even have an opportunity to feel embarrassed because they’re rarely made aware that such things were seen.

It’s always a good idea to bring an extra pair or two of knickers, as well as tampons, if you know you’re going to be on your period the day of your boudoir session, just in case a change does become necessary. It’s essential to keep in mind that if a period-related mishap occurs during your boudoir photoshoot, don’t worry – it’s a common incident, and it’s not a big deal. I understand that it can be disappointing to discover that your scheduled boudoir session coincides with your menstrual cycle, but as we’ve discussed, there’s no need to reschedule. Your period won’t affect the quality of your boudoir photos in any way. So, why wait?

What inspired you to book a Boudoir Shoot?

I’d seen so many photos of others’ shoots on the group and seen them talk about how they all felt. Which was understandable because they all looked phenomenal! I wanted to look and feel like that too!

Tell us about one of the outfits you wore for your photography session – why do you love it?

My favourite was my orange set of bra, thong and suspender belt. I loved that it was a bit different to something I’d usually go for and i felt great in it!

Describe your Boudoir Shoot experience

It really was brilliant! I was nervous as I was waiting to go in, but the nerves soon disappeared as Jemma and Sarah made me feel so at ease straight the way! Sarah made the shoot itself really relaxed and demonstrated each pose, making it easier for me. She was very patient too when i got confused 😂 I loved doing it and it was a great confidence boost for me!

What was your favorite part of the entire experience?

I loved the whole getting glammed up experience. I very rarely wear make up at all and when I do it’s very basic foundation and mascara, occasionally some false lashes. Jemma made me look INCREDIBLE.

I also loved the viewing session. It was amazing to see myself like that. Like, sorry who’s this bad bitch? Oh yeah, that’ll be me💁‍♀️

How did you feel when you first saw your images?

I couldn’t believe I actually looked like that. In my head they were going to be awful, because that’s how I saw myself. They were far from awful though and Sarah had made me feel insane! It was a mega hard choosing my final images!

Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of the session?

I do see myself in a different light now. After having my third child in 2022 and a c-section, I was finding the latest changes in my body quite difficult to accept. I can see the beauty in body after all it has been through ❤️

What is your top body confidence tip?

Put on your favourite lingerie and take some pics at home. You’ll see how incredible you look! And if you can’t see it for yourself, share them in the Empowering Girl Gang group – we will all tell you 😉 🔥

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about booking a photoshoot of their own?

How to pose for your boudoir photoshoot

If you’re feeling nervous about your upcoming boudoir photoshoot, don’t worry – you are not alone! It is 100% natural, and for most, it is completely outside of their comfort zone. Many of my clients come to me with similar questions and concerns, such as “What are some good boudoir poses for my body shape?” or “Where can I learn poses before my photoshoot?” But the truth is, you don’t have to know how to pose at all!

As a boudoir photographer, it’s my job to guide you through the process and help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. I understand that the thought of being in front of the camera, especially in very little clothing can be daunting, but I promise you, it doesn’t have to be.

First of all, you don’t need to practice in front of a mirror. I do recommend stretching A LOT as the shoot can physically be quite a work out *whew* … But you don’t have to have any posing or modeling experience. You certainly don’t have to be photogenic or “good in front of the camera.” Leave all of that to me! As a professional photographer, I have the artistic talent and years of experience necessary to make sure we capture tonnes of beautiful photos of you.

During the photoshoot, I’ll be there to show you exactly what to do and how to pose. I demonstrate every single pose for my clients first so you get to watch me first and its pretty hilarious. When it’s your turn, I’ll tell you what to do with your hands and feet, coach you on facial expressions, and show you exactly where to stand and sit. This is where the magic happens! Together, we’ll create beautiful images that showcase YOUR natural beauty and make you feel confident and empowered.

One of the most common things my clients tell me is how much more comfortable they felt after we actually got a chance to talk. I always chat on the phone with all my ladies before booking, it’s totally easy and gives you a chance to ask any burning questions you may have. You’ll be super excited to get get the ball rolling on having your own experience with me.
